Angry Teens: How to Deal with Angry Teens

It is very difficult to manage or control an angry teenager. Parents dealing with angry teenagers always end-up confused about their teens anger because they do not like seeing their teens in such condition. There are always conflicts arising between the teenager and the parent, because the temper levels of the kid. Parents keep wondering that why they are not able to control their teens.

Teens with high temper will not have any emotional connections with their parents and they do not even expect anything. Parents should know their expectations from teens before dealing with them. Teenagers experience stress levels just like the adults, may be for different kinds of reasons. A teenager who are stubborn and argumentative always crave for independence and less controlled by their parents.

Causes of Anger in Teens:
Teenagers get angry because of many reasons, naming few are may be due to the changes in their bodies, dealing with friends, school demands, separation of parents, being treated unfairly, chronic illness and parents’ high expectations. Teens get overloaded with stress due to the above reasons as they have poor coping up skills and they think that anger is the only way to express that they are hurt or sad.

They have expectations that are unreasonable and this happens when they get used to getting what they want. They get angry when they realize that nothing is under their control. Teenagers have their own way of expressing their anger, some of them withdraw without reacting much while some of them choose destructive methods and turn to alcohol and drugs.

How to Deal with Teens:
It is very common for teenagers to get angry at things because they are susceptible to their emotions and this is considered normal. Teenagers let their anger by shouting, throwing things, cursing or by slamming the doors behind them. If they try controlling their emotions within themselves they become very depressed. It is the responsibility of the parents to help their teens in managing their temper.

    How to Overcome:

  • Parents should always keep in mind that their teens will have lots of emotional issues at this age.
  • They should try and identify the cause for their teens temper and try helping them with the situation.
  • Parents should respect their teens individuality and independence.
  • A teenager may be confused or frustrated about any situation and if the parents do not respond or react correctly to the situation then the situation can get worse.
  • A parent should take necessary steps to help their teens to control their anger.
  • Talk to your teens when they are calm and explain and make things clear to them. It is always better to ask teens the cause for their anger when they are calm.
  • Parents should make efforts to help their teens to overcome their temper.
