Usage of the inhalants has become very common among the teens and they use these to get high. This is known as the huffing. Huffing is used by the teenagers who are 12 to 17 years of age. Accessibility and affordability are two causes that drive teenagers to abuse the inhalants. Aerosol deodorant is one such household that is used by the teenagers to get high.

Canned air used for electronics is also one such product that gives high to a teenager. By using inhalants a teenager not only destroys his mind but also have many chances of losing life.

What are Inhalants:
Inhalants such as cleaning fluids, paints, glues, solvents, compressed air cans are few of them which teenagers use to get high. They are the most generally used house hold things that are used in our day to day life.

Almost out of ten middle-school aged teens at least four of them get high using the house hold things. Inhalants are used by the teenagers because they find them cheap and keeps them high for at least 40 to 45 minutes. Teens opt for inhalants because they are easy to get hold of and are also easy to explain to the parents if they get caught.

Warning Signs:

Huffing among teens causes them to perform low in their academics and to obtain low grades in school, lack of concentration in any work they do.

Teenagers always complain to their parents about sores in mouth and frequent headaches.

Teenagers who enjoy huffing have red eyes and parents find their clothes smelling of chemicals.

Parents find their teens getting irritated for small things and often slur nonsense or they appear to be drunk.

They often have paint stains on their face, clothing and hands.

Teens suffer from rashes on the face, blisters around the nose, throat, lips and mouth.

Teenagers have painful tongue, unexplained cough, bleeding nose and sudden weight loss due to huffing.

How to Help the Teens:

Parents who find their teens huffing should not react by beating them up, yelling or by panicking.

Parents should stay calm because there are chances of you driving the teens to conditions like cardiac arrests.

Take your teens out and patiently read out the warning directions on the product to them and explain the side effects.

Take them to a doctor to ensure that they are out of immediate danger.

Parents and educators find it very difficult and often get confused regarding their teenagers usage of the technology. Teens should be taught the etiquettes of technology and they should also be taught how should they be using the technology responsibly and respectfully. Teenagers use messaging as the primary means of communication among them.

Teenagers prefer messaging because they find it cheap, portable, simple and can be in contact with friends at any point of time. Every teenager is into texting and parents find it annoying to see their teens always using mobile phones. Usage mobile phones has created a sub culture and has created a language which can be understood only by the teenagers. They have started up their own texting sub language.

Pitfalls of Texting:

Texting among the teens can be easy way of communication but it also has a drawback of miscommunication.

Texting does not have the benefits of facial expression and direct contact so there are many chances of miscommunication to take place.

It can be useful only to communicate the non emotional data. Most of the feelings cannot be expressed in texting though it is a great tool for making plans. Emoticons will not be of help always.

According to a study conducted at the University of Queensland in Australia convey that messaging is as equivalent to that of cigarette smoking. Teenagers feel the urge to be connected to the things surrounding them which gradually leads to addictiveness.

Teenagers who message constantly may lose respect among the elders. It is always better to do the extensive texting when you are alone. Constant messaging can make your family or friends who are physically present might feel less valued.

Messaging causes constant interrupts that can cause disturbance and can make it harder to focus on the present work or task.

About 37% of the students among 900 of them from 26 schools nation wide were found texting distracting, according to a study in 2006 by Liberty Mutual Insurance Group study.

The worst that teenagers texting while driving and 46% of them admit it.

Rules of Etiquette for Messaging:
All the drawbacks does not mean that teenagers should stop messaging completely. Parents and educators can take the initiative in teaching the teenagers the rules of etiquettes of messaging. Teenagers can follow the etiquettes and as well as enjoy the benefits of texting avoiding the pitfalls.

Family Time:

Avoid the usage of mobile phones during family time.

Make live communication with parents and siblings during dinner time or the time together in a car.

Try not to use the mobile phones completely during the time spent with the family.

Respect the Hierarchy:

Communication is very important for everyone and it has a hierarchy.

The hierarchy of communication is like this first comes live chat, then the video chat, then it is the telephonic chat and the last one is the text chat.

If you feel that you need to respond to the message, then it is basic manners to take the permission from the person you are before responding. Message back to the person saying you are busy and that you will get back to them after sometime.

What you Model:

Parents should not just give advices instead they should set an example for their teenagers and it is always better to practice what you preach.

Following these etiquettes will no longer feel technology as an interruption or and addiction.

Texting when done responsibly and with respect can be the best way of communication and can be enjoyed by all the teenagers.

Teens realize that money equals power at a very young age. They get into a conclusion that money can equal designer clothes, car insurance and freedom to some extent. Many teens get into part-time or full time jobs to meet their needs.Teenagers prefer the most expensive things in their lives and they want most of the things. A teenager working and earning for himself creates a self-esteem for himself .

Parents should teach their teens the responsibilities and benefits of earning their own money. Most of the teenagers in America hold informal jobs like baby sitting, yard work or grocery stores at the age of 12. This may affect the school work verdict of a teenager. Two-thirds of the American teens get into some kind of employment by the age of 15. Most of them either get into the government panels like that of the National Commission on Youth praise and this will help them to get a transition from youth to the adulthood.

Pros and Cons of Working Teens:

They are surprised when they get their paycheck because half of the amount goes for taxes and social security.

They find it hard to realize that the cost of the things they need is higher than the salary they take home.

Most of the teens have this strongly in mind that if they want anything they need money and most of the time the job motivates a teenager to get into college education.

This also helps the teenager to try out for a higher paying career.

Teens develop financial skills also through budgeting. They develop financial skills at a very early age and they understand the taxing process also.

They become responsible and accountable of the money they earn. Being responsible at works will earn higher grades and achievements for teenagers.

Teens who opt to work at the early age will have very less time to enjoy. This may be participating in extra-curricular activities, meeting friends and sports.

Parents can help teens in balancing both work as well as their life.
