Working Teens: Pros and Cons of Working Teens

Teens realize that money equals power at a very young age. They get into a conclusion that money can equal designer clothes, car insurance and freedom to some extent. Many teens get into part-time or full time jobs to meet their needs.Teenagers prefer the most expensive things in their lives and they want most of the things. A teenager working and earning for himself creates a self-esteem for himself .

Parents should teach their teens the responsibilities and benefits of earning their own money. Most of the teenagers in America hold informal jobs like baby sitting, yard work or grocery stores at the age of 12. This may affect the school work verdict of a teenager. Two-thirds of the American teens get into some kind of employment by the age of 15. Most of them either get into the government panels like that of the National Commission on Youth praise and this will help them to get a transition from youth to the adulthood.

    Pros and Cons of Working Teens:

  • Teens start developing an appreciation for money though they do not get payed good for their first job.
  • They are surprised when they get their paycheck because half of the amount goes for taxes and social security.
  • They find it hard to realize that the cost of the things they need is higher than the salary they take home.
  • Most of the teens have this strongly in mind that if they want anything they need money and most of the time the job motivates a teenager to get into college education.
  • This also helps the teenager to try out for a higher paying career.
  • Teens develop financial skills also through budgeting. They develop financial skills at a very early age and they understand the taxing process also.
  • They become responsible and accountable of the money they earn. Being responsible at works will earn higher grades and achievements for teenagers.
  • Teens who opt to work at the early age will have very less time to enjoy. This may be participating in extra-curricular activities, meeting friends and sports.
  • Parents can help teens in balancing both work as well as their life.
  • Most of the teens find it very hard to balance studies and work because of which they score lower grades.
